Prof. Dr. Bertin NYEMB, Université de Yaoundé (Kamerun)

Wer den Forschungs- und Lehrbetrieb an Universitäten und Hochschule kennt, dem dürfte klar sein, dass Kooperation und Austausch früher oder später zu Begegnungen führen, die das Weltbild der jeweiligen Interaktionspartner:innen dauerhaft erweitern hilft. Die internationale Vernetzung, wie sie im Rahmen des europäischen Mobilitätsprogramms Erasmus+ mit Partnerländern umgesetzt wird, stellt für alle Beteiligten eine Bereicherung dar. Ich darf Zeugnis davon ablegen. Durch die enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem International Office der Universität Vechta durfte ich an dem Zustandekommen einer Partnerschaft mit meiner Heimatuniversität – Université de Yaoundé I in Kamerun – mitwirken. 2019 stellten wir einen Antrag, der als förderungswürdig eingestuft wurde. Die Corona-Pandemie machte die geplanten Mobilitäten zunichte. Vorerst. Drei Jahre später war es soweit.

Als ich 2022 erstmalig in den Genuss von Erasmus+ kam, konnte und wollte ich mir diese einzigartige Chance nicht entgehen lassen. Obwohl ich Deutschland längst kannte und gute Kontakte dort pflegte, reiste ich mit drei Kolleg:innen nach Vechta. Das Besondere an diesem Aufenthalt war, dass meine Mitarbeitenden Professor:innen, Uni-Angestellte aus aller Welt kennenlernen und mit ihnen diskutieren durften. Inzwischen weiß ich, wie sehr sie der Austausch im europäischen Raum geprägt hat. Sie haben Neues erlebt, einen wert- und leistungsorientierten Geist mit nach Hause genommen. Ich empfehle dem Lehrpersonal sowie allen Angestellten der Universität Yaoundé I eine Staff mobility. Unseren künftigen Gästen aus Vechta darf ich als Heimatkoordinator eines versprechen: während Ihres Aufenthaltes im Land der Löwen werde ich Ihnen manche Spuren der deutschen Kolonialzeit im postkolonialen Kamerun gerne zeigen. Es handelt sich um ein trauriges Kapitel unserer gemeinsamen Geschichte, eine Vergangenheit, die wir durch Erasmus+ partnerschaftlich bewältigen können. Es lohnt sich wirklich, am Programm Erasmus+ mit Partnerländern teilzunehmen. Das lege ich Lehrenden, Mitarbeitenden und Studierenden weltweit sehr ans Herz.

Anyone familiar with research and teaching at universities and colleges will know that cooperation and exchange sooner or later lead to encounters that help to permanently broaden the world view of the respective interaction partners. International networking, as implemented within the framework of the European mobility programme Erasmus+ with partner countries, is an enrichment for all involved. I can testify to this. Through close cooperation with the International Office at the University of Vechta, I was able to contribute to the establishment of a partnership with my home university – Université de Yaoundé I in Cameroon. In 2019, we submitted an application that was deemed eligible for funding. The coronavirus pandemic put an end to the planned mobility programmes. For the time being. Three years later, the time had come.

When I first had the opportunity to participate in Erasmus+ in 2022, I couldn't and didn't want to pass up this unique chance. Although I had long been familiar with Germany and had good contacts there, I travelled to Vechta with three colleagues. What made this stay special was that my colleagues were able to meet professors and university staff from all over the world and engage in discussions with them. I now know how much the exchange within Europe has shaped them. They experienced new things and took home with them a spirit of value and performance. I recommend staff mobility to the teaching staff and all employees of the University of Yaoundé I. As the home coordinator, I can promise our future guests from Vechta one thing: during your stay in the land of lions, I will be happy to show you some traces of the German colonial era in post-colonial Cameroon. It is a sad chapter in our shared history, a past that we can overcome through partnership with Erasmus+. It is really worthwhile participating in the Erasmus+ programme with partner countries. I highly recommend it to teachers, staff and students worldwide.
