Worldwide, many societies are aging. The Master's programme in Ageing Sciences / Gerontology at the University of Vechta (Germany) offers interdisciplinary perspectives on human ageing. It integrates the relevant research from sociology, psychology and health sciences and teaches students how to independently gain knowledge from current research and apply it in practice.

Requirements 
  • German language certificate for university admission (e.g. TestDaF, Telc C1 Hochschule, DSH-2 or the Goethe Zertifikat C2) or proof of German language knowledge on the level C1 (e.g. proven by attending a C1 course) for a conditional admission - please note: We offer preparatory German language courses.
  • recognised Bachelor's degree in a suitable field of study

Tuition feeIn principle, no fees are charged for studying at the University of Vechta (tuition fees). Only the semester fee is payable. This covers certain administrative costs and allows you to take advantage of benefits such as discounts in the refectory or free use of buses and trains in Lower Saxony.

The degree programme qualifies students for academic work and offers them the opportunity to gain experience with academic research in study projects. It also qualifies students for a further academic career (doctorate). The degree programme also enables students to spend time at another university in Germany or abroad during the standard period of study (mobility window).

  • Social relations and participation: Sociological Perspectives
  • Health monitoring (GBE) in Germany
  • Social relationships and productivity: psychological perspectives
  • Psychosocial adaptation and self-regulation across the lifespan
  • Methods of ageing research
  • Study project
  • Master's thesis and Master's colloquium

In addition, further gerontological and management modules are available in the compulsory elective area. An internship option is available.

The Master's degree opens up career prospects in research and teaching. Further employment opportunities for gerontologists include assessment or counselling in public relations or in project management. The programme also qualifies graduates to work for organisations related to ageing, older people or generational issues - for example in the healthcare sector, charities, foundations, etc.

The two Master's degree programmes in Ageing Sciences / Gerontology & Management of Social Services can be studied as a double degree programme at the University of Vechta. This is made possible by joint modules and mutual recognition.
