This course is the only one offered in this subject at a university in germany.

The University of Vechta has been training gerontologists for over 20 years.
Here, the basic subjects (sociology, psychology, law, economics, biology and geriatrics) can be studied in many areas, both application-oriented (e.g. in social work, nursing, management of social services) and research-oriented.

FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE STUDY PROGRAM ...

The program offers interdisciplinary perspectives on human aging and the life course. It will provide you with a critical appreciation of key theoretical approaches. You learn, e.g. in study projects, how to gain insights from current research and apply it in practice.
This also makes students fit for a scientific career (doctorate).

During your regular study period a "mobility window" allows for a stay at another (foreign) university.

is dedicated to the study of individual and societal preconditions, mechanisms and consequences of aging.

In Germany, like in most other countries worldwide, life expectancies increase. Ageing individuals, families, groups and companies, institutions, and societies need to adjust to these changes. Gerontology takes a multidisciplinary view on ageing processes on all of these levels and includes, for example, psychological, social, medical and economic perspectives, so that decisions based on scientific research have the potential to be less one-sided and therefore more carefully balanced.

At the University of Vechta, internationally acknowledged scientists from different fields teach and conduct research in the area of Gerontology.
The courses we offer (BA and MA Gerontology) stand out due to interdisciplinary research and practice orientation.
This is is why our degree programs take an outstanding position nationwide regarding gerontological education.

Vanessa Gattung

Vanessa Gattung is a former student of the University of Vechta. Already during her studies of the Master's and Bachelor's degree program in Gerontology, she was involved in various committees, among others as chairwoman of the Gerontology Student Council. Since November 01 she has been mayor of the city of Papenburg.
