International Mobility in the Master of Primary School Education (MAPS)

The aim of the project MAPS is to internationalise teacher training and to institutionalise and expand cooperation between different actors involved in teacher training at the University of Vechta, Tallinn University and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

The 3 pillars of the project:

Pillar 1 - International Mobility

A central component is to increase the international mobility of primary school teacher training students, as an integral part of their professionalisation process. In the winter semester 2022/23 and in the winter semester 2023/24, three teacher training students from the University of Vechta will complete their third Master’s semester at Tallinn University and two teacher training students from the University of Vechta at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

The students start the subject-related, linguistic and interdisciplinary preparation one year in advanceThe partner universities Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (IT) and Tallinn University (EST) were selected for the project because they have an exceptional profile in the field of inclusive education (IT) and school development and the teaching profession (EST).

Pillar 2 - Summer Schools

A second element is the etablishment of a 14-day Summer School of Teacher Education. Together with the partner universities FU Bozen-Bolzano and Tallinn University, a 14-day Summer School will be held annually at the University of Vechta, starting from the summer semester 2022. The two-week Summer School offers the opportunity to deal with topics relevant to the teaching profession and also includes workshops on intercultural issues.

Internationally renowned lecturers from the partner universities of Tallinn, Bozen-Bolzano and Graz are invited to contribute to the “Summer School of Teacher Education” with their professional expertise with a term-time contract comprising 16 hours. They receive financial support for the duration of their lectureship. In addition, every year, five students from Tallinn University and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano will receive financial support for participating in the Summer School.

Pillar 3 - Steering Committee

A third element is the institutionalisation of the Steering Committee Lehramt.International. The Steering Committee is composed of members of different status groups from the universities of Vechta, Tallinn and Bozen-Bolzano.

It has been established as part of a kick-off meeting in the summer semester 2021 and will meet every six months to evaluate the project and to continuously develop the cooperation between universities with regard to internationalisation of teacher training.
