Prof. Dr Verena Pietzner

Prof. Dr Verena Pietzner has been President of the University of Vechta since 1 January 2022. She is Chairwoman of the Standing Commission for Gender Equality of the State University Conference of Lower Saxony (Landeshochschulkonferenz, LHK) and Chairwoman of the Administrative Board of the Osnabrück Student Services (Studierendenwerk Osnabrück).

Before Prof. Dr Pietzner took this position in Vechta, she had been Vice President for Instruction and International Affairs at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg from the beginning of 2020 to the end of 2021. From 2014 to 2021, Prof. Dr Pietzner was also a university lecturer for Chemistry Didactics at the University of Oldenburg and led the teaching-learning laboratory “ChemOL – Chemie in Oldenburg” (chemistry in Oldenburg). After having completed the teacher training degree programme with the subjects Mathematics and Chemistry in Bielefeld, Prof. Dr Pietzner completed her doctorate at Technische Universität Braunschweig and then qualified as a professor at the Institute for the Didactics of Natural Sciences at the same university. Prof. Dr Pietzner also taught and researched at the University of Würzburg, the University of Koblenz·Landau and the University of Hildesheim. Her main research interests included, amongst others, creativity and computer use in chemistry teaching, interdisciplinary chemistry teaching and chemistry-related vocational orientation. She conducted research as a visiting scholar at universities in Japan and Israel.
